Please give detailed support from the novel.
1. Steven's life has changed since Jeffery became ill. What do you think is the biggest change in Steven's life? Why?
2. Who is Samantha and what is Steven's relationship with her?
3. How did Steven grow and mature during the novel?

  1. 2. Samantha is the girl that has cancer that Steven gave the special drumsticks to. There relationship with her is special because they are good friends they talk a lot.

    3. Steven grew and matured during the novel by learning to take care of himself and others and knowing who is a better choice of a friend. Steven went from being a good young boy to being more like a man. He made the right choices for the right reasons. His life changed and he changed along with it. The changes were obvious.

  2. 2. Samantha is a girl that Steven met at the hospital he was at when his brother got sick at the benefit. I feel really bad for her because she is sick and dying of cancer and I think Steven realizes then that she has a tougher life than he does. His relationship with her I think is special because she wants to talk to him and find out more about the outside world. In the end, Steven feels really bad and ends up giving Samantha his special sticks which shows he is very close to her and wants to make her fell good.

    3. Steven grew and matured in the novel by talking to his counselor. I think she made the biggest change in Steven because of what she told him 'focus on the things you can change.' That really made Steven think that he needs to stop being immature and look at his life on the good side. His brother is still sick but he knows that he can't change that, so he thinks about Jeffery and talks to people about him more because he finally realized the needs of other people.

  3. 1. I think the biggest change in Steven's life is that he has to be nice to his brother, and he doesnt get all of the attention. He is very protective over Jeffery.

    2. Samantha is the girl that was at the hospital. Steven met her when he went with Jeffery. He gave her the special drumsticks. When they went back to the hospital she was dead. Steven and Samantha got along good.

  4. I agree with MF0209 that Steven's changes were obvious. Throughout the book he gradually changed everything from his actions to his emotions. His changes also helped those around him too. Some of the changes that were obvious was when Jeffery wanted Steven to play with him he felt that it was important because of what Samantha told him 'stay with your brother.'

  5. BC0921 I agree with you because Samantha does have a hard life and Steven has it easier then her. He sees that his life is a lot better than other people in the world. And they did become close friends. Steven really cared for Samantha. :]

  6. I agree with BC0921. Steven realized how much harder Samantha's life was than his. It made him realize how easy he had it.

  7. 2. Samantha is a girl that Steven met in the hospital while he was there with his dad and his brother. Samantha wishes that her sister would come to the hospital and visit her. Samantha heard Steven playing the drums she sat outside the door and listened to him. Steven gave Samantha his special sticks but she gave them back at the end when he went to the hospital with his brother again.
    3. Steven grew and matured during the novel by becoming better friends with his dad and talking to him more. He also talked to the guidance counselor a lot more too. He became close friends with Annette and Renee. The guidance counselor told him try to focus on things you can change and forget about the things you can't change. He really thought about that too and tried hard to do that.

  8. I agree with MF0209 and BC0921. Steven is learning to take care of himself and he realized that Samantha and all the kids in the hospital go through a lot of stuff and he has it pretty easy.

  9. !.) I think the biggest change in Steven's life is that he doesn't get all the attention from his parents and family, but he's becoming more popular at school.

2.) Samantha is the girl that Steven bet at the hospital. She was cancer to but it's worse than Jeffery's cancer. Their relationship is good friends because Steven gave her his special sticks but then she gave them back because she died.

  10. I agree with MF0209, BC0921, and JS0413 after Steven bet Samantha he realized that he had it easy and that he shouldn't dread the time he plays with Jeffery because with Samantha she's just wishing her sister will come to visit her.
